With an inbound fleet running on biofuel, L’Oréal Group Brazil gets Latin America’s first dedicated biomethane refueling station for a company

The challenge

Recognized as the world’s number one beauty group, L’Oréal Group committed in Brazil to transforming its entire business chain to respect the planet’s limits.

A major milestone came in 2023, when the company—which was already using biomethane in the production process at its São Paulo factory—signed a contract with Gás Verde to expand its use, applying it to 100% of its dedicated fleet.

Refueling Station

To facilitate refueling, L’Oréal Group Brazil partnered with Gás Verde to install a station next to the Gaia Distribution Center, the second-largest L’Oréal facility in Latin America.

This is the company’s first biomethane station in the world. L’Oréal Brazil is also a pioneer in the cosmetics sector in using biofuel across its entire dedicated fleet.

Results

By switching from CNG to biomethane, the company reduced greenhouse gas emissions in its dedicated operation by 94% compared to 2021. In 2022, L’Oréal Brazil also achieved 100% renewable energy use across its operations.
